Parry Sound - Muskoka
Norm Miller was elected to represent the riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka in a by-election on March 22, 2001, and was re-elected in general elections in October 2003 and October 2007.
From April 2002 to September 2003, Norm was the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Northern Development and Mines. He also served as Vice-Chair of the General Government Committee, Commissioner of the Red Tape Secretariat, member of the Estimates Committee, and sat on the Cabinet Committee for Economic and Resource Policy.
In November 2003, Norm was made Critic for Northern Development and Mines. In August 2005, he was appointed to the role of Chief Opposition Whip and has held critic portfolios for Natural Resources, Aboriginal Affairs, and Research and Innovation.
Most recently, in August 2009, Norm Miller was appointed Finance Critic. He remains a member of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly and continues to be the Chief Whip of the Opposition.
Born in 1956, Norm is the third of four children to Ann and the late Frank Miller, former Muskoka MPP and Ontario Premier.
Norm’s involvement with politics began in 1975, when he started the Muskoka Young PC organization.
Norm learned the value of hard work and the importance of family growing up and working in the resort business. For 25 years, together with his wife, Christine and their four children, they owned and operated a lodge on Lake Muskoka.
Norm is also past President of Muskoka Tourism, past Director and Treasurer of Resorts Ontario and is a strong advocate for economic growth and tourism in the Parry Sound-Muskoka area.
As a commercial pilot, Norm enjoys using his small seaplane to visit constituents and attend events in the beautiful riding of Parry Sound–Muskoka.
